So at the moment I have to be honest money has been a bit tight but through the power of Groupon we have managed have a lovely couple of days away in Cheshire. now when we were booking with Groupon I really didn’t know what to expect as sometimes obviously you get what you pay for but I have to admit we were pleasantly surprised.
We started by buying a voucher from Groupon for breakfast two at the Tudor cafe in Grantham which is near to where we live so we thought it be nice to set the day up with a nice breakfast and then leave to travel to our next destination. the breakfast was really lovely the staff couldn’t have done enough for us,as you know I have problems with my mobility so they had set up a table downstairs for us. It was a full English breakfast with toast and hot drink for £9 so I would highly recommend it and we thought hopefully this was a good sign of how things were going to go.
Our next destination was Wybunbury staying at The Swan Inn in,it’s an old pub right next door to the village church. the rooms are actually a converted stable block and they’re all individually decorated to a very high standard and if you follow me on Instagram then you would’ve seen the video I made of the rooms but they were really lovely. you had everything you needed coffee/tea making facilities with plenty of tea and coffee(as you know I’m out Yorkshireman so he does like a cup of tea)all the toiletries were high-end as well, free Wi-Fi and it was lovely that the rooms weren’t in the pub so if you wanted to go back to your room to have an early night you’re not disturbed by the pub noise.
the pub was absolutely lovely gorgeous very olde worlde had funny quotes written everywhere quite dark (so having breakfast by candlelight was a bit of an experience but a lovely one) lots of oddities around it was just a very quirky pub. the staff were fantastic very friendly couldn’t do enough for you and the food Michelin star quality(not that I’ve ever had Michelin star food but I would imagine this was well on its way), so the deal we had was for two nights bed & breakfast plus £15 each towards dinner the first night and that was for £90 so it was a fantastic deal.
so the next day we had brought another voucher for a two course meal for two in a gastro pub called The Cheshire Cheese in Shavington just a couple of miles from where we were staying(we are on a budget so wanted to not over spend so brought in advance)again from Groupon and it was £12. So after a lovely breakfast at the Swan Inn, oh my it was lovely and you could have had as much as you wanted and to have it by candlelight was even more special, we thought we would have a drive around the area to see the lovely countryside. As you know my mobility isn’t good so we like to go for a drive around, sometimes if we stop some where I will see if they have a mobility scooter for me to get around on(this was a God’s send whilst on holiday last year with our daughters and grandsons at Haggeston castle as it meant I could stay out later and watch the children do their activities)but usually we just stay in the car. We love to take the roads that state “unsuitable for HGV or thin track”, just to see where they go and we have found some delightful spots by doing this.
On today’s drive we found a large Peter Rabbit in a field(photo-op for the boys), a few tractors again photographed for the boys, an old water-mill which we stopped at for a coffee which was lovely and nice to see the mill working and still grinding the flour. We then made our way to The Cheshire Cheese, well all I can say is that we will never return and wouldn’t recommend it to our worse enemy, we so disappointed that I wrote a review on their Facebook page and tripadvisor.
My review- “Well it shouldn’t even have 1 star the food was awful not as described also no soft drinks! Dirty plates glasses and everything about it was a let down. As for the manager Adam he needs to pull his finger out of his a**e and sort it out he is trying to get more customers with a collaboration with Groupon but he’s giving them a bad name. Other people were complaining as well my advice stay clear!!! If it wasn’t for Bobby being so nice we would have walked out well done Bobby your the only star the Cheshire cheese has ”
so I would say this is the only thing that marred our time away, the next day after checking out of the Swan Inn after another lovely breakfast, we had booked our final treat again from Groupon Afternoon Tea for two at the Mere Hotel in Mere NR Wilmslow the voucher was £9. Today was the day that we were going to visit one of my secret vices, I love watching The Real Housewives Of Cheshire so couldn’t visit this county without going to visit their stomping ground(please see my previous blog Secret Vices) which was definitely an eye opener. We arrived at Mere Hotel at 2pm and wow a lovely place very whimsical and magical, lovely chandeliers and the afternoon tea was fabulous, it was a great way to finish off a lovely few days away, even though the best thing for me was getting to spend this time with my wonderful hubby.
